Project Spotlight

Simcoe County Roundabout

Georgian Paving was awarded the contract to construct Simcoe County’s first roundabout in the Midland/Penetanguishene area on County Road 93. County Road 93 is the main route for Penetanguishene and the northern tip of Simcoe County.

The scope of work involved constructing a detour road to the west of the existing intersection and installing temporary traffic lights to detour traffic around the work site. Once traffic was diverted, the excavation of the existing road and construction of the new roundabout could proceed. Additionally, the work included building a multi-use trail adjacent to the new roadway. Work included:

  1. 43,600 m³ earth excavation
  2. 11,000 t of asphalt (SP19, SP12.5)
  3. 55,000 t Gran B, 25,000 t Gran A
  4. 3,000 metres of curb
  5. 1,800 m² of curb median islands
  6. 1000 m of Storm sewer and corresponding appurtenances
  7. 3 precast box culverts

The contract timing for this project was two years with a completion date of October 2022. Georgian Paving was able to complete the majority of work prior to the end of November 2021.
